Jennifer Lawrence "cried" before singing Mockingjay's 'Hanging Tree'

Jennifer Lawrence was reduced to tears at the prospect of singing in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.

Director Francis Lawrence said that the actress was "horrified" about having to perform, but added that her vocals were "great", Radio Times reports.

In Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen sings 'The Hanging Tree', a song she learned from her father when he was alive. 

The director explained: "She'd probably tell you it was her least favorite day. 

"She was horrified to sing, she cried a little bit in the morning before she had to sing. But she did it and she did it all day - and she hated me for making her do it all day - but she did and it's great. 

"She'll probably never really understand it because she's so sensitive about the singing."

He continued: "The Lumineers sent the melody over and then we had a vocal coach, who sort of shifted the key for Jen's voice.

"Then she started working with Jen once or twice - Jen didn't really want to do too much of the training [he laughs] - but she recorded it for me as a test so I could hear it. 

"I was worried, I really thought we were going to have to do a bunch of pitch shifting, but she sounded great. What you hear in the movie is what she did on the day in the quarry."

Mockingjay - Part 1 will open on November 20 this year and Part 2 is scheduled for release on November 20, 2015. 

Once the Lionsgate film franchise has wrapped up, The Hunger Games will move to London for a stage production in summer 2016.

Doze Niu sentenced to five months in prison

Doze Niu sentenced to five months in prison

11 Nov – Taiwanese director Doze Niu has been found guilty of violating Taiwan's Vital Areas Regulation and will be spending five months in prison.

According to Film Business Asia, back in June last year, the director was caught smuggling his mainlander cinematographer Cao Yu into the restricted naval facilities in Kaohsiung using another Taiwanese crew's ID to scout locations for the drama, "Paradise in Service", when the latter's original application was rejected.

While the Navy previously allowed Niu to enter its facility, the presence of Cao has caused the force to withdraw its support, and charged Niu for national security breach.

When he admitted his guilt last month, Niu appealed for a lenient sentence, citing that he has financial difficulties due to the movie's weak performance - having made only USD 790,000 at the box office despite its alleged USD 8.3 million budget.

Following his plea, Niu's 5-month sentence has then been suspended for two years. He was, however, still sentenced to 60 hours of community service, as well as fined NTD 600,000 (approximately USD 19,600) by the Kaohsiung court.

Meanwhile, Cao Yu has not returned to Taiwan since the issue started, and may still be arrested if he tries to enter the country.

Elanne Kong works hard to pay for her case

Elanne Kong works hard to pay for her case

11 Nov – Elanne Kong, whose contractual dispute with former agency Universal International has entered legal proceedings, revealed that she has been working hard since becoming a freelance artiste.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the actress, who now mostly works in mainland China, revealed that she has just finished filming new movie "I Love Fareham" in Xiamen, and has taken a lot of jobs ever since.

"I am very grateful to those who have helped me during my most difficult moment," she said, during a music event at the AsiaWorld Expo. "I have been working hard to raise legal fees, and have already paid six figures for the case."

Declining to make too many comments about the case, Elanne said that she will let her legal representative manage everything.

Asked if she would sign with another company, the actress said that she will only do so after her case is settled so as not to burden her new employer.

11 Nov – Linda Chung has recently dismissed rumours saying that she has threatened to end her contract with TVB if she does not win TV Queen this year.

As reported on On CC News, Linda, who attended the launch of a new boutique recently, debunked such rumours by saying that her contract still stands for a few more years.

"I don't have any other intention than to just work. I have stayed with the company for ten years and I have learned a lot from it. I am happy [with TVB]," said Linda.

Asked if she would get married if she wins TV Queen, Linda laughed and said, "I will leave it all to fate. Getting married and having children depend on time."

"I hope my acting career will rise to another level," she said.

Sharon Chan plays sex therapist in new series

10 Nov – It was revealed that newlywed actress Sharon Chan will be playing a sex expert in TVB's upcoming sex comedy produced by Jazz Man, title to be determined.

According to On CC News, she recently expressed, "I have seen a professional [sex therapist] to understand my character more. I asked about the kinds of sexual problems and difficulties experienced by the clients."

When asked if she herself has any sexual issues, Sharon replied, "I am very normal."

Acting opposite Eddie Cheung, who plays her husband and sex social worker, Sharon admitted that there will be several bed scenes with the actor.

Asked if she was worried that viewers will criticise her, seeing that she has just recently gotten married, Sharon replied, "Viewers nowadays are more accepting."

The series will also co-star Louis Yuen, Benz Hui, Elena Kong, and May Chan. Filming will begin at the end of this month.

Chelsea Clinton gives birth to a baby girl


Chelsea Clinton has given birth to a baby girl named Charlotte.

The daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tweeted the news earlier today (September 27).


The 34-year-old former NBC correspondent married Marc Mezvinsky in 2010, before announcing she was pregnant in April 2014.

She runs the Clinton Foundation with her parents and has often been tipped to follow them into politics. Her husband is an investment banker.

Ms Clinton stepped down from her role as NBC special correspondent in August to concentrate on her pregnancy, motherhood and work.

Her father was the 42nd president of the US, governing the country from 1993 until 2001.

It was just two days ago when Hong Kong actor Lawrence Ng said that he was trying hard to salvage his marriage with Chinese actress Shi Yang Zi, but yesterday, he announced on Weibo that they will be getting a divorce.

Thanking everyone for their concern, the 50-year-old wrote: “As a man, I am to blame for not being able to manage my married life well. For the sake of my daughter, I did not want things to end up like this. But things are out of control now and divorce seems to be the best decision for us. I feel regretful and upset and the only thing I can do to reduce the hurt to my daughter is to shower her with more love and do my best to bring her up.”

The couple, who are parents to their 6 year old daughter Xi Er, have been living apart for three to four years. To make a return to showbiz, 29-year-old Yang Zi is said to have left Xi Er in the care of her mother in Changchun, China.

While Lawrence often posts family photos on Weibo, calling Yang Zi “my great wife” and Xi Er “piggy” with captions like “The two most important people in my life”, there were no photos of him among the 821 found on Yang Zi’s Weibo.

Rather, it was Taiwanese singer Annie Yi’s fiancé, Chinese actor Qin Hao, who appeared in three photos on her account where she called him “dearest brother”. In those photos that they took together, the two behaved intimately, leaning on and hugging each other.

13 Nov – After keeping mum about her collaboration with Taiwanese diva Jolin Tsai, Japanese pop R&B singer Namie Amuro recently revealed that the two of them have recorded a song and filmed a music video together.

As reported on Arama Japan News, Namie is featured in Jolin's own composition called "I'm Not Yours", which mixes English and Chinese lyrics together.

Both singers reportedly sang in both languages, and Namie admitted that it was her first attempt in singing in Mandarin.

"I was worried that I wasn't able to convey the meaning very well. But if the Taiwanese fans like it, that's good enough for me," said the singer.

Meanwhile, as reported on Mingpao News, the music video, which was shot at the Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden in Taichung recently, features both Jolin and Namie as madams in some sort of a brothel.

"I'm Not Yours" will be included in Jolin Tsai's upcoming album, "Play", which will be released on 15 November.

Some people might be thrilled to earn almost $1,000 for speaking just a handful of lines, but Spencer Lacey Ganus probably isn't one of them. According to her contract, which TMZ says was filed in court, Ganus made just $926.20 to voice the teenage Elsa, the main character in the highest-grossing animated film of all time, which raked in $1.2 billion. It wouldn't be hard to give her a bigger slice of the pie — TMZ notes that $926 is just 0.000077 percent of the blockbuster's gross profits.

The most famous Elsa — the one who sings "Let it Go" — is Idina Menzel. Eva Bella played young Elsa. Ganus was 12-year-old Elsa, who appeared in only two short scenes. --Peter Weber

The pair were seen kissing during an American football match at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Thursday (November 13).

The Duchess of Cambridge met One Direction at this year's Royal Variety Performance.
The boyband were joined at the London Palladium today (November 13) by McBusted and Simply Red, along with Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato and Bette Midler.

The Royal Variety Performance, which the pregnant Duchess attended with her husband Prince William, was the first they oversaw - replacing the Queen and Prince Charles who normally attend.

Chris Lai and 2 year girlfriend, Nicole Lee, who participated in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant a few years back, finally got married on the 11th of November. They held a 24 table banquet at Hong Kong Parkview. However, even until today, since the beginning of the relationship, there were always negative news surrounding the pair, as Nicole is the heiress of her father's 500 million dollar company, while Chris' financial situation is far off compared to that. Chris could only bear with the news, but he used action to prove himself, as the wedding fees were all paid by him this time. Asked if they will hurry and try to have a baby after marriage, the couple expressed: "Not yet, two person world first!" 

In the afternoon, Chris Lai and his bride, Nicole Lee, met the media in their wedding outfits. The bride wore a 5 carat diamond necklace with earrings, looking extremely elegant. When the two took photos for the media, they posed and kissed sweetly twice as requested by the reporters. Chris revealed that when he read his vows, he kept stumbling, which his wife laughed at him for.

As for reports saying that Chris is "marrying into" the Lee family, he helplessly said: "Can't do anything about it. I will have to respond to tomorrow's news. It's okay as long as me, my wife and our family understands. We also understand that there is disparity in our wealth, but I will work hard and pull the distance closer. Hopefully time will prove everything." Asked about the rumours of the female side buying a house for him, Chris revealed that after marriage, he and his wife will be living in his village house in Tai Po. The main reason is so that it is convenient for him to go to work and film for "Come Home Love". They will not move into the new house that has just been renovated in Yuen Long yet. They will wait for "Come Home Love" until next June and then consider to move in. Although he just got married, he only took a 3 day break; therefore the honeymoon will have to wait until he finishes work. However, they have already planned a one month long trip to Australia to enjoy their alone time. Speaking of the couple's relationship being "the woman is above he man" (due to their wealth difference), Chris honestly said: "It's not a problem as long as the female side understands. I will continue to work hard and earn money. I've always had a good relationship with my wife's family. They see me as their own son too." 

The eight groomsmen on the big night included actors, Ekin Cheng, Wong Yi Man and Patrick Tang. Celebrity guests included Linda Chung, Joey Law, Lisa Chong, Roxanne Tong, Yoyo Mung, Moses Chan, Sharon Chan, Christine Ng, etc. Linda Chung expressed that back then, she and Chris Lai were also part of "TVB 12 Stars". They've known each other and grown together for 10 years. Witnessing the moment of him getting married, she was touched to tears. 

Yesterday, Chris accepted a phone interview and expressed: "Really need to thank my wife. The wedding banquet was decorated very nicely, in a fantasy theme. Everyone had a great time.
