Matthew Ko is sick of playing perverts
While Matthew Ko previously said that he is leaving TVB to rebuild his career elsewhere, the actor recently disclosed the actual reason why the company is not the platform for him to achieve success.
According to Apple Daily News, the actor, who left the building on 10 September, stated that unlike what he expected from TVB after watching a lot of TVB series in Canada, the reality is far from the truth in his nine-year stint with the company.
The actor revealed that he initially earned HKD 15,000 (approximately USD 1936) a month from several acting and hosting jobs, and was happy when he was given the chance to play the second lead in "Man in Charge" back in 2009.
However, Matthew said that he did not exceed the producer's expectation and the series ended up being his last opportunity to play a lead role. Everything went downhill from there onwards.
Though Matthew accepted his fate and tried to progress slowly as an actor, he kept getting stereotypical roles in the years that follow.
"I kept playing perverts and couldn't understand it. I even played a molester who harassed an old woman in "Ghost Dragon of Cold Mountain". I didn't want to do it, but I had to, due to contractual obligation."
In the meantime, Matthew said that he will take a two-month break, and then travel to Beijing to start afresh.
