Emma Watson threatened by nude leak hackers
Emma Watson is being targeted by hackers, who are threatening to leak a series of purported nude pictures of the actress within a matter of days.
The 24-year-old is thought to have been specifically targeted in a direct response to her recent speech on gender equality for the United Nations, as part of her role as Goodwill Ambassador for Women.
Representing the organization's new HeForShe campaign at the UN headquarters in New York over the weekend (September 18), she spoke about her "uncomplicated" reasons for becoming a feminist and added: "I am from Britain and think it is right that as a woman I am paid the same as my male counterparts.
"I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body.
"I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men. But sadly I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights."
Watson, who was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador last year, recently traveled to Uruguay to call for a greater representation of women in politics.
She also condemned the recent leaking of intimate photographs and videos, criticizing "the lack of empathy" from social media users on the invasion of privacy.
The online site, supposedly made up of 4chan forum users, claim to have obtained naked pictures of Watson which they are threatening to release publicly in less than four days.
It's also reported that the website features a picture of Watson wiping a tear from her eye next to a digital countdown, with the words 'Never forget, the biggest to come thus far' written in capital letters across the bottom of the screen. There is no evidence that such pictures exist.
Naked images claiming to show Jennifer Lawrence also appeared on 4chan, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate Upton and Ariana Grande were among other stars named in a supposed 'master list' of celebrities who have been affected by the hack.
