Shakira thanks World Cup for giving her the "love of my life"
Shakira has thanked the World Cup for bringing her and her partner together.
Speaking ahead of her closing ceremony performance tonight (July 13), the singer explained the role the tournament has had in her relationship with FC Barcelona player Gerard Pique.
She said: "[I] will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup."
Shakira met Pique while promoting her 2010 World Cup song 'Waka Waka - Time for Africa' and the pair are now parents to an 18-month-old son, Milan.
The 37-year-old added: "If it wasn't for the World Cup my son Milan would not be here."
Shakira will headline the World Cup's closing ceremony, and will perform 'La La La (Brazil 2014)' alongside Carlinhos Brown.
