Scooby-Doo voice actor Casey Kasem dies, aged 82

Casey Kasem has died, aged 82.

The American radio personality and voice actor passed away in hospital earlier today (June 15) after a lengthy battle with dementia.

His daughter, Kerri Kasem, shared a statement on Twitter, writing, "Early this Father's Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. 

"Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad."

Kasem, who had four children and was married twice, provided voices for many classic cartoon characters, including Shaggy in Scooby-Doo and Batman's sidekick Robin in Super Friends. 

He also enjoyed a successful career in radio, launching the American Top 40 in 1970, which he hosted until 1988. He also front a revived version from 1998 until 2004.

Kasem also hosted a show called Casey's Top 40 from 1988 to 1998.

He never said goodbye at the end of any of his shows, instead quipping: "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars."

The star also appeared in several films, including 1984's Ghostbusters in 1984, and made cameos in TV shows Hawaii Five-O , Saved by the Bell, Charlie's Angels, Columbo and the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.

Kasem was honored for his lengthy career with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his 49th birthday in April, 1981 and was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1992.
