Welcome to the vietnamese net idol thread!

What is a Net Idol?

A net idol is an internet term for a person that is popular online through their blogs, photo albums, personal websites, etc. They are popular for many reasons, but most of their time they are known for their LOOKS. Their pictures are often circulated throughout many forums/websites which is how they gain (and to also maintain) their popularity.

What is a VIETNAMESE Net Idol?
A Vietnamese net idol is similar to any other net idols--they achieve their popularity through the internet. The difference between a Vietnamese net idol to that of other countries' is that Vietnamese net idols are often people who "have made a name for themselves by being a socially active teen icon through the press and online community" (quoted from truffles14). They do NOT have to have the "best face" like what you would consider an "Uhlzzang". In Vietnam, most net idols are actually referred to as "Hot Boy" or "Hot Girl" instead of a net idol. Soompi members uses the term net idol because... we...just... do. image When Vietnamese net idols gain enough attention from the internet, they eventually become a sort of "mini-celebrity" to the media. They are sometimes hired as fashion models for clothing stores and sometimes enter teen pageants to further boost their popularity. If they become REALLY popular, they even start going into the entertainment industry as singers, dancers, or actresses/actors.

So there are only Vietnamese Net Idols in Vietnam?
Vietnamese net idols are very well spread out. We've had a few that are from United States, to France, to Australia, and even Hong Kong. Most of these net idols are often not as popular as the ones in Vietnam, but they are still famous. Soompi even has some few net idols floating around. image Sometimes net idols from Vietnam MOVE to different countries as well, yet they still remain known as a net idol.

Can I post pictures of people I know?
NO. NO. NO. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We've had an incident where we did allow people to post their friends/relatives/random person, and it was a MESS. We got spams of random people that were NOT well known online and it was VERY ANNOYING for our members to keep telling people to stop. So NO. You may NOT post pictures of people you know. UNLESS. UNLESS, they are WELL KNOWN ONLINE. That is, they better have some sort of popularity and pictures of them floating online or atleast 1375309435346 people stalking their blogs/pages. THEN, we will allow you to post their pictures. But if half of the thread disagree that they are "net idol" material, then please do us a favor and remove before people post mean comments.
