Mariah Carey has said that her time judging American Idol was like "going to work every day in hell".
Carey was a judge during the 2013 season along with Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, but announced she would be quitting the Fox show in May.
Her time on American Idol was marred with controversy due to her highly-publicised feud with fellow judge Minaj throughout the season.
Carey spoke about American Idol during a chat with Hot 97, and revealed that she didn't enjoy the experience of judging a talent show.
"Honestly I hated it," Carey said. "I was the first person signed on and I don't want to say anything that's going to, heaven forbid, look like I'm saying anything negative, but I thought it was going to be a three-person panel."
She continued: "[The producers] gave me a nice dangling monetary moment and I thought, 'Oh okay, this isn't a big deal'. But it was like going to work every day in hell with Satan. Nah, just playing."
Carey also said that she was not satisfied with some of the contestants that advanced through the competition.
"I was disappointed," she said. "I loved the contestants and it was disappointing when they would not put certain people through for political reasons."
American Idol returns in January with a judging panel composed of Harry Connick Jr and returning judges Jennifer Lopez and Urban.
