Jodi Benson has played several Disney characters, but will for millions always be known for what she calls her "ongoing job" as Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
Perhaps the standout moment in the movie is her song 'Part Of Your World'. It may have been snubbed by the Academy, but became an enduring classic all the same.
Below, the singer and actress talks to Digital Spy about her memories of recording the track and Carly Rae Jepsen's cover for the new Little Mermaid Blu-ray.
"When I recorded 'Part of Your World', I had Howard Ashman in the studio with me standing at my side, directing me and just guiding me every step of the way," Benson said.
"As I sing the song in concert performance, I go back to that day of recording the song. It's a wonderful, wonderful memory for me."
Of the song missing out on an Academy Awards nod, Benson continued: "We won the Oscar for 'Under the Sea' and 'Kiss The Girl' was also nominated - as well as getting the Oscar for 'Best Score'.
"We didn't even have a category for feature animation with the Oscars or Golden Globes - but things have changed, we were the first around.
"I think if it had cycled back around now it probably would have [been nominated], but a story song at the time was probably not recognized really as much, a monologue song."
Of Carly Rae Jepsen's cover for the Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD, Benson said: "I'm honored.
"It's been covered before, and this particular version I really like because instead of a dance song or production or performance, they were able to direct it the way Howard would have liked it - which is a story.
"It's not about a song and the production value of the song."
She continued: "I think some of the covers were not necessarily what I think Howard would have liked, but I think he really would like this particular version, because they really focused more on telling the story.
"I think she really did convey that. I like the video, I like just everything they did with it, I think it's really beautiful."
Asked what other Disney songs she is a fan of, Benson said: "When I do my solo concerts, I can do a whole night of Disney.
"I do a lot of Howard and Alan [Menken]'s songs - I do from Mermaid on, but then I also do classics; 'When You Wish Upon A Star', Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty.
"There's a great, great volume of music to choose from, from the past and from the present. There's plenty to choose from as far as great songs to sing.
"I really love The Lion King and I really love the music from Tarzan. I think that's such a great score. Phil Collins is amazing, and of course Elton John.
"It's great that we have this notoriety that started with The Little Mermaid. Now we've got composers and lyricists and celebrities and recording artists that want to be a part of this genre - it's wonderful."
The Little Mermaid is out on Disney Blu-ray™ and DVD on Monday 2 September.
